Name- Gunnlaug Kætilmund Of Bothvar Son of Arnfinn
Age- 28 seasons
Gender- Male
Species- Beaver
Occupation and Home- Warrior, Sailor, Wanderer, Explorer, Mercenary, the far north
Alignment- Neutral Good
Appearance- Gunnlag is huge, the height of a full grown badger. He has a huge barrel chest and thick treelike arms and legs. His eyes are an electric blue and his hair is a fiery red with golden blond streaks. His front teeth are a dirty yellow hanging just over his bottom lip. He has two long braids of hair growing from his chin capped with rat skulls. His tail is missing a chunk out of the end courtesy of a pike when he was a young kit. He wears an open faced helm, with a movable crosspiece that can be dropped down over his face. A wickedly spiked pair of steel gauntlet-bracers that reach up to his elbows, a chain mail hauberk complete with steel spaulders, leather skirting, and a padded jerkin he wears underneath.
Personality- Gunnlag is a loud, boisterous, jovial beast. He is extremely loyal friend but is suspicious of all others and gives them a chance to prove themselves before he treats them with almost any respect. He loves music and has been brought to tears on several occasions by the sound of a flute or bagpipes. He has some skill in scrimshawing and whiddling and his work is quite good for his skill. He drinks far too much for his own good and is a rowdy drunk. He has a problem with betting and bets on almost anything, from which way a fly will move to which paw a cat will lick first. He loves to brawl and has been known to wade into a bar fight throwing beasts left and right laughing all the wile, but when a weapon is drawn he considers all bets off and the fight is to the death. He is a beast of his word and will not go back on it no matter the cost, that being said he never gives it lightly, and only to the most trusted of friends. He hates the vermin races (especially Sea Rats) and shows them no mercy in battle, nor expects any.
Strengths:
• Gunnlag is an expert axe fighter, brawler, and Bowman.
• He possesses great strength and is an expert swimmer and sailor.
Character Weaknesses
• He is raw and uncouth and many are taken back by his upfront rude nature.
• He is short tempered resulting in a lot of “misunderstandings” after he has calmed down from a supposed insult.
• Gunnlag loves mead, ale, wine, anything alcoholic and drinks to excess
• He is a poor gambler and spends his coin faster then he can earn it, but still he holds out for the day when his luck will “turn”.
Weaponry- He carries a Lochaber Axe (A heavy two foot blade surmounted at its forward end with a razor-sharp hawk like bill, fitted with a black oak handle he keeps notched for every vermin he kills) strapped horizontally across his lower back, a broad steel reinforced wooden shield emblemized with the crest of his family (A foaming mug of ale), a heavy black yew-wood long bow secured across his upper back and chest, a quiver of arrows, a short Dirk he keeps in his boot, two lynix gut bow strings, and a broad bladed hunting knife sheathed at the belt on his waist.
Parents- Gunnlag has a father –Arnfinn-, and mother –Ingulfrid-,
Siblings- Two sisters –Hild and Astrid-
Who are all missing and their condition is unknown.
Other Relationships- None
History-- Gunnlag hails from the far far north in the land of the flowing ice. His people are great warriors and explorers and seek to colonize the world. Gunlag’s family was of one such expedition. But nature is a fickle thing and during a great storm their ship was torn asunder. Gunnlag washed ashore and spent days combing the beach looking for any sign of his family or shipmates. Till at last after many days hunger drove him inland, he plied his trade as a sailor to the first vessel that would take him and that turned out to be a Sea Rat clipper. As soon as they were out to sea he was quickly overwhelmed and forced into bondage. This went on for a few years until during a raid gone bad the captain freed him in desperation and ordered him to fight. He shattered the captain’s jaw with a hay-maker and using the shackle and chains still bound to his wrists killed or maimed the remaining Sea Rats on deck. The otter captain of the merchant vessel he helped was so impressed by the raw power he displayed. He hired him on as a full time bodyguard and spared no expense providing him with weapons that could make full use of his massive size. But his vices became his undoing and he was fired after a long and tumultuous journey deeper into the bottle. It was the intervention of a elderly friar mouse that saved him from a life as a vagrant. Taking him in he showed Gunnlag compassion, virtue, and self forgiveness helping him regain his broken honor. Gunnlag stayed in the monastery for a few years until the old mouse died. Then he left forever and started out on his long overdue search for news of his family and his people
