(sorry man my comp crashed) The slow inexorable approach of darkness covered the woodlands in blanket of shadow. The crickets had just began their nightly calls and the bats were just starting to flit across the darkened skies. The moon glowed brightly like a silver disc in the black, penetrating the small gaps in the trees and adding some much needed light to the forest floor. And Gunnlaug Kætilmund Of Bothvar Son of Arnfinn mighty Beaver warrior Scourge of the Northlands was lost in it all. His feet ached, and his trail rations had run out the day before yesterday. Cursing his luck he finally sat down against a tall Elm, hoping to wait out the night. Guessing with his luck the way it was he would end up spraining his ankle on a upturned root or rock, and that combined with him being ravenously hungry, cold and wet was a suffering he did not dare think about. He had just started to drift off when he heard the crunching of footsteps on the other side of his tree. He slowly got to his feet, slid his fearsome Axe from its sheath, drew a short breath through gritted teeth and readied his weapon for whatever was coming around the other side.

Sergeant Graggus, one of the rock voles who lived in Yairtus and served the mighty badger Emperor Ulgus Gairkun, was out on a patrol with eleven other rock voles, as ordered by Emperor Ulgus.
Sergeant Graggus was a tall, muscled vole who wore a black cape and a bronze breast- and backplate to go with a bronze helmet that protected the top of his head. He carried a spear and broadsword.
Sergeant Graggus and his patrol had seen a huge beaver and decided to investigate. They suddenly lost sight of the creature until suddenly they came past an elm and saw the beaver with ihis axe ready.
Sergeant Graggus pointed his broadsword at the beaver and said in a deep and no-nonsense voice. "Who are you and what are you doing here?"

Gunnlaug lowered his axe at the sight of the tough little vole. "I am Gunnlaug Kætilmund Of Bothvar Son of Arnfinn little beast, and as for why I am lost and do not know where here is." he slid his axe into its back sheath. "where is here?" he asked sheepishly.

(By the way, Sergeant Graggus is a Rock Vole, not a shrew. )Sergeant Graggus nodded after listening to the beaver. He thought that Gunnlaug was a goodbeast; after all he was a beaver and he just sheathed his weapon. "Well, Gunnlaug, you seem to be lost. This is Yairtus Island. You must have a boat if you got here, right? It is a fair distance, you know. I suppose you want directions, right Gunnlaug?"

(The grammar is set this was on purpose) Gunnlag smiled broadly "Yairtus island eh? Nah on the directions friend this be the place i was looking for, I was lookin to speak with that badger lord of the island, be he in?" Gunnlag then thought for a moment "You want my weapons?" he said and reached for his axe.

Sergeant Graggus snorted, then spoke. "What do you think we are, vermin? No way. Keep your weapon, friend. You asked to speak to the Badger Lord, you mean Emperor Ulgus Gairkun? We can show you the way to Yairtus, where he and us live." Sergeant Graggus indicated himself and the other eleven rock voles.

Gunnlag bellowed and boomed with laughter "I meant no offense little vole, and yes Gairkun be the beast i was looking for." he then stuck out his massive paw "Gunnlaug Kætilmund Of Bothvar Son of Arnfinn at yer service, and pleased tah meet your acquaintance! now lead the way to yer king!"

(Sorry I cotnrolled your character in this post. All I made him do is travel with Graggus, no harm done but if you want me to change it I will.)
Graggus took Gunnlaug's paw and chuckled. "Thank you, Gunnlaug. Alright, let's head out." Graggus released Gunnlaug's paw and strode over to the front of the group and gave the order to go back to Yairtus.
They traveled uneventfully for about a half hour until they reached Yairtus. A rock vole sentry had his bow and arrows ready as he called down, "Graggus, is that you an your patrol? Who's that big beaver"
Graggus nodded. "Aye, this is the patrol." Then the rock vole sergeant motioned to Gunnlaug. "This beaver here is Gunnlaug, a fierce warrior. Now would you mind letting us in?"
The rock vole on the battlements nodded and then scurried down to unlatch the bolts with two other voles. They quickly opened the gate and closed it after Graggus and his friends got inside.
Sergeant Graggus asked, "Where's Emperor Ulgus?"
Before one of the rock voles could reply, a deep voice said, "Right here, Sergeant Graggus." Then Emperor Ulgus Gairkun strode up from the left side and stood in front of the rock voles and the beaver. Ulgus motioned to Gunnlaug, asking him, "Who are you?"

"I am Gunnlaug Kætilmund Of Bothvar Son of Arnfinn Lard and i am here with a dual purpose" Gunnlag bowed then took his fearsome axe and laid it down at the kings feet. "The first one be" he said "Is to offer mah services as they are for as long as ya desire, fer ah have heard you are a strong and honorable king and it would be mah honor to elp ya!" he took and long breath and looked Ulgus dead in the eye "The other is more serious, an army led by a hellion of a Bear called Huron the Bloody Juggernaut by many is moving down from the north and will be here in months!" Gunnlag waited patently for a response before continuing.

Emperor Ulgus Gairkun asked with surprise and anger. "What? A bear called Huron will be here in months? Does he have an army with him? How many months? Do you know anything else, Gunnlaug?"

Emperor Ulgus Gairkun stroked his chin thoughtfully. "Hmm...I have no real allies, at least not any that are close enough to reach within a few months. I have quite a few able-bodied soldiers here, all rock voles, three hundred fifty three to be exact, last time I counted. Will you join us, Gunnlaug? Even one beast can make quite a difference."

"You have my axe Lard for as long as you require it!" Gunnlag bellowed. "I do however have a better idea then sitting here waiting for the attack! I will go and see who i can gather to fight with ya! and i wul return before the fightin starts, thats a promise ya can hold me ta!" Gunnlag grinned broadly and the looked around "so who will go wit me!"

Emperor Ulgus Gairkun thought a while before speaking. "I told you have have three hundred fifty-three rock voles, I can spare maybe fifty or a bit more. I need to keep some in case of attack. Maybe Huron will arrive here earlier than expected? Well, I will stay here to rule. How many rock voles do you think you need, Gunnlaug?"
